About Me
Hi, I'm Katie! I'm a licensed therapist with special interests in reproductive + perinatal mental health and parenting. Ever since I was a child myself, I have loved children and have been interested in pregnancy and birth. I spent my teenage years babysitting and working in after-school programs, and throughout college, I worked in early childhood education. I've seen first hand the impact positive relationships have on children and their families, as well as the joys and challenges that come with becoming a parent. Combining my experiences in early childhood with my knowledge as a therapist, I now support parents in all stages of their journey. Whether you want to become a parent, are pregnant, postpartum, or just trying to manage everything that comes with parenting in today's world, I'm here to support you!
I also enjoy working with anxiety, OCD, depression, and relationship issues. I have additional training through the OCD and Anxiety Center of Minnesota. I work with adolescents and young adults, because growing up is hard and everyone deserves to have someone on their team during these huge life transitions.
Clinical Approaches
My work often utilizes a relational and person-centered approach. This means that I believe you are the expert on your life, not me. I believe therapy should feel collaborative and that a warm, trusting relationship is key to seeing growth. When you're feeling alone or misunderstood, therapy is a place where you will feel safe, heard, and empowered.
I am trained by Postpartum Support International, and when working with the perinatal population, I often help people find self-compassion, create space to explore and feel difficult emotions, and process hard experiences in order to make meaning out of life's challenges. I have completed training through Circle of Security International and use this knowledge to support parents in better understanding and meeting their child's needs.
As a client, you can expect me to be authentic and real. I'll be direct when it's needed and compassionate always. There may be tears at times and laughter at others. We'll talk about the hard stuff, but we'll also talk about dogs, our favorite coffee order, or that new show that everyone's talking about. At the end of the day, we're both human beings who are just trying our best and I hope you leave my room feeling a little less alone.
The human behind the credentials.
Outside of the therapy room, you'll often find me spending time with my husband and our two dogs. I love to read, craft, try a new recipe (baking only!) or daydream and create mood boards for my next home project. You'll almost always find me with an iced coffee and I'm always looking for a new coffee shop to try! I love to try new restaurants and my favorite pastime is eating good food, with good people.
