About Me
Sometimes life can feel overwhelming, and it's hard to make sense of why you're feeling the way you do. Seeking therapy isn't a sign that something is wrong with you—it's an opportunity to better understand yourself, work through life's challenges, and discover strengths you may not even realize you have.
My goal is to help you better understand yourself, make sense of what you're experiencing, and find practical ways to move forward with confidence and hope. One of my favorite parts of being a therapist is helping people understand the "why" behind their thoughts, emotions, behaviors, relationships, and even the changes happening within their bodies. I believe that when we understand what's happening, we can replace shame with self-compassion and begin making meaningful, lasting change.
I've spent more than 20 years working in the mental health field, supporting adolescents and adults through some of life's most difficult seasons. My experience includes residential treatment, intensive dual diagnosis and substance use treatment, and outpatient mental health, where I've worked with individuals navigating addiction, trauma, anxiety, depression, ADHD, grief, relationship challenges, and major life transitions. I'm also trained in Moral Reconation Therapy (MRT), an evidence-based approach that helps individuals develop healthier decision-making, accountability, and personal growth.
While I continue to enjoy working with a wide variety of clients, I've developed a special passion for supporting women through the many hormonal transitions that can affect emotional well-being. I have specialized training through Postpartum Support International (PSI) in perinatal mental health and enjoy helping women navigate pregnancy, postpartum, post-weaning hormone changes, perimenopause, and menopause. For clients who desire it, I'm also happy to incorporate faith and spirituality into the counseling process.
Clinical Approaches
I believe every person has a unique story, so there is no one-size-fits-all approach to therapy. I draw from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Solution-Focused Therapy, and Narrative Therapy, while tailoring treatment to each person's individual needs and goals.
You can expect me to be genuine, compassionate, and encouraging, while also being honest when honesty is needed. I'll meet you where you are, help you better understand yourself, celebrate your progress, and equip you with practical tools you can use outside of our sessions. Therapy isn't about fixing you—it's about helping you recognize the resilience and strengths that are already there and building on them together.
The human behind the credentials.
I was born in Honolulu, Hawaii, grew up primarily in Washington State, and over the years have had the opportunity to live in every corner of the country—from the West Coast to the East Coast, the Southwest, and now the Midwest. Each place and the people I've met along the way have shaped my appreciation for different cultures, perspectives, and life experiences.
I also come from a multicultural background and was adopted into a family with 20 children from around the world. Growing up in such a diverse family taught me early on that every person has a unique story, and those experiences continue to shape the way I connect with others today.
When I'm not in the office, you'll usually find me gardening, exploring Minnesota, taking road trips, cooking for family and friends, or enjoying a quiet evening at home with dinner, a good movie, and my three dogs. I love being outdoors, discovering new places, and finding joy in life's simple moments.
Above all, I believe every person has value, purpose, and incredible resilience. Wherever you are in your journey, it would be an honor to walk alongside you as you heal, grow, and discover what's possible.
