About Me
Hi, I'm MacKenzi! I'm a fourth-year doctoral student in Clinical Psychology at Augsburg University, pursuing my Doctor of Psychology (PsyD), and I'm currently completing my doctoral practicum at Vayda.
I'm passionate about working with individuals throughout their lifespan, with a particular interest in supporting children and teens. I'm especially interested in neurodivergence, including autism and ADHD, as well as anxiety, depression, emotional regulation, stress, and life's many transitions. I want therapy to feel like a place where you can take a breath and just be yourself. You don't have to know exactly what to say, have everything figured out, or pretend you're doing okay when you're not. Sometimes you need help sorting through a million thoughts, sometimes you need to talk about something that's been weighing on you, and sometimes you just need someone in your corner.
When working with kids, I'm all for getting creative, playing, and being a little silly! I recognize that behavior can be a way of communicating when words are hard to find, and I value helping children discover ways to express themselves, understand their emotions, and learn that their voices matter. With teens and adults, I bring that same patience and support, whether we're working through a tough situation, figuring out how to speak up for your needs, or celebrating a win.
Clinical Approaches
I don't believe therapy should be a one-size-fits-all experience. Everyone has their own story, and I value finding ways of working together that make sense for you and what you're going through. For me, connection comes first. You can laugh, cry, ask questions, sit quietly, or admit that you have no idea where to start. Therapy doesn't have to be serious every second, and you don’t need a perfectly organized list of things to work on. We can start wherever you are and figure things out together. I believe therapy can be a place to understand your needs, recognize your strengths, build skills that make life a little easier, and feel more confident advocating for yourself. With children, that might look like finding creative ways to explore emotions and communicate feelings that are hard to put into words. With teens and adults, it might look like working through anxious thoughts, setting boundaries, or learning how to ask for what you need. No matter your age, my hope is that therapy feels like a place where you can figure things out without having to figure them out alone.
The human behind the credentials.
You can usually find me outdoors, spending time at my family's farm, hanging out with family and friends, or planning my next adventure. I recently went skydiving, so apparently I'm not opposed to voluntarily jumping out of a plane! When I'm not doing something adventurous, there's a good chance I'm watching reality TV and getting way too invested. I'm also a dog mom to three dogs: Finn, Buck, and Willa. They are constantly finding new ways to get into trouble, so there's never a dull moment!
I'm naturally a pretty calm and patient person, but I also love laughing, being a little silly, and showing up for the people I care about. I'm often the person checking in on friends, offering encouragement, or making sure everyone feels included. The people in my life mean a lot to me, and I believe some of the best things we can do for one another are also the simplest: listen, show up, and remind someone they're not alone.
More than anything, I want people to know they don't have to be a certain kind of person to feel welcome in therapy. You can be quiet, talkative, silly, overwhelmed, unsure, or a little bit of everything. You can show up having a great week or having one of the worst days ever. There's room for all of it here.
