About Me

Welcome! My name is Alyssa Siow, and I’m so glad you’re here. I believe therapy works best when grounded in connection, collaboration, and compassion. My approach to therapy is authentic and warm. I strongly believe in the importance of partnership: you bring expertise about your lived experiences and I create a safe space for exploration, healing, and growth. Together, we will work to better understand the patterns, experiences, and parts of yourself that have shaped your journey while creating new pathways for growth.

I’m passionate about supporting children and families as they navigate early life stress, trauma, chronic medical conditions, autism, genetic disorders, foster care, and adoption. I have specialized training in the DC:0-5 diagnostic classification system for infants and young children and in play-based therapies: Attachment & Biobehavioral Catch-Up (ABC), Child-Parent Psychotherapy (CPP), and Circle of Security Parenting (COSP).

I also enjoy supporting adults with life transitions, self-discovery, anxiety, and depression. I have a growing interest in supporting those navigating reproductive and perinatal journeys, pregnancy, the transition to parenthood, early attachment and bonding concerns, and postpartum mood and anxiety disorders.

I earned a Master of Arts in Child and Adolescent Development with a specialization in infant and early childhood mental health from University of Minnesota, and am pursuing my LPCC license. I have a variety of experiences having worked in community mental health, clinic and hospital settings, and other mental health practices. In my work, I utilize trauma-informed and evidence-based practices that support lasting change.

Clinical Approaches

Therapy with young children often looks a lot like play, because children communicate, process experiences, and make sense of their world through play. Together, caregivers and I create a safe space for the child to express themselves while strengthening the caregiver-child relationship. Throughout sessions, I guide caregivers in understanding their child's play, responding to difficult moments, and use evidence-based practices that promote secure caregiver-child attachment and emotion regulation. Caregivers are an essential part of the therapeutic process. In addition to sessions with children, I regularly meet with caregivers on their own to process the joys and challenges of parenting, offer developmental guidance, and explore ways to support their child both in the therapy room and beyond.

My work with adults is also grounded in connection and curiosity. I’ll be alongside you as you navigate relationships, life transitions, and manage the day-to-day stressors. We’ll explore the concerns bringing you to therapy, deepen your understanding of recurring patterns, identify your strengths, and find new ways of moving forward. I draw from a parts-informed approach, which means we’ll explore the different aspects of yourself and how they interact with one another. With a strong developmental and attachment-based background, I support clients to understand how earlier experiences and important relationships have shaped who they are today. By getting to know the younger versions of yourself with curiosity and compassion, we can create space for healing, growth, and greater self-understanding.

My goal is to support you holistically, so collaborating with other professionals is another important part of my work. I often partner with teachers, physicians, other mental health professionals, occupational or speech therapists, and social workers to support clients in all areas of life.

The human behind the credentials.

Outside of therapy, I love traveling, discovering hidden gem coffee shops, getting outside whenever MN weather allows for it, and curling up with a good book. Most importantly, I’m all about spending quality time with my people and pup!
