Birth Trauma +

Pregnancy & Infant loss

Infertility

Are you 1 in 8? One of the many women faced with the painful longing & grief that comes with infertility. Do you know that deep sadness that comes with negative pregnancy tests month after month? Do you find yourself searching for some explanation to understand, why me? Maybe you’re wondering, am I not supposed to be a mom, is it because of my diet or spending so many years on birth control, am I not holding my legs up long enough after sex? Perhaps you are struggling to make decisions about how to move forward. You might be unsure about what infertility treatment options are available or need support making decisions about growing your family. Its likely terms like two-week wait, OPK, timed intercourse, IUI, IVF, gestational carriers, CM, DPO, and “the wand” are part of your running thoughts. Maybe you are wanting to explore adoption or choice to live child-free.

Pregnancy + Infant Loss

The immense grief associated with pregnancy & infant loss is immeasurable and difficult to even put into words. The heartbreak and pain can feel like too much to handle. This is often made worse by people not knowing how to support you. Even those who love you most, might say something that stings. They might use words that have you questioning if you should be “over it” or “feel lucky to have been pregnant at all.” Perhaps you feel alone and misunderstood. Providers at VMHC will help contain your pain and support you in processing your experience in a way that can lead to healing & moving through (not “moving on”). We will help you reduce your symptoms by honoring your story + guiding you to make meaning from your suffering.

Birth Trauma

We have expectations about what labor & delivery is supposed be like. We develop birth-plans, attend Lamaze classes, and have ideas about how beautiful & miraculous this life event will be. It is all those things. And, for some it can also be a very scary experience. When things go way off plan and there are concerns about the health of momma or baby, it can have a lasting effect. There is often little time to process (or sometimes even understand) the possible trauma of a complicated birth experience; instead women are catapulted into motherhood. This traumatic experience can impact how someone thinks and feels for a long time after the event. It can even impact relationships and parent-child dynamics. We will work together to understand your trauma and its impact on your functioning. We will walk alongside you in your journey towards healing and wholeness.

You are not alone. Providers at VMHC have highly specialized training and clinical experience to inform their work. They also really hear you as their paths to parenthood have also been impacted by complexity and complication.
